‘Salvage’ to premiere at 2024 Edinburgh Short Film Festival

Up-coming short film Salvage, made with the support of the BFI NETWORK, awarding National Lottery funding, is set to have its UK premiere screening in competition at the 2024 Edinburgh Short Film Festival. The festival, BIFA qualifying and hosted at Summerhall, will run from the 25th October-10th November.

Featuring Jamie Robson in the lead role of Bud, Salvage is a social drama following the strange and off kilter relationship between two men, Bud and Sully, as they prepare for a funeral.

Jamie Robson’s credits include leading in the BAFTA winning My Loneliness is Killing Me (2018),Aftersun director Charlotte Wells’ Sundance nominated Blue Christmas (2017) and Ross A. Wilson’s up-coming feature Spin State(2023).

Callum Mitchell’s recent work includes audio drama-documentary, ‘Solomon Browne’ for BBC Radio 4 which was shortlisted for BBC Audio Drama Awards 2023, and more recently ‘Greetings From Sunny Cornwall’ also for Radio 4.

Salvage will be director Jonny Dry’s latest project after An Tarow which was picked up by BBCiPlayer, Tom’s Dream funded by Screen Cornwall and Hall for Cornwall, and Exeter Phoenix commission Open Country starring Jowan Jacobs as well as Robson. The film has been produced by Ella Turner under production company Studio Erma.

Mitchell, Dry and Turner first worked together on the set of BAFTA-winner Mark Jenkin’s feature, Enys Men and the team was supported by Bosena’s Denzil Monk as Executive Producer.

Edinburgh Short Film Festival is devoted to screening short films from Edinburgh, Scotland and around the world. Evolving from the Leith Short Film Festival in 2011, the festival has shown first films made in Somalia, Oscar nominated shorts from Australia, the USA and Ireland, and hosted visiting film-makers from China, Russia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland and all over the UK.

Principle photography took place over four days in December 2022 across remote locations in West Penwith as well as Penzance and Newlyn, and involved crew from Cornwall and the SouthWest, including students and alumni from Falmouth University.The film has attracted additional support and backing from BIFA Breakthrough winning Producers Kate Byers and Linn Waite at Early Day Films; Verdant Brewery Co; and FalmouthUniversity's Sound/Image Cinema Lab.
